Posted on Tue, 23 Jun 2015
Question: I am a 46 year old woman suffering from swelling and pain in the right leg accompanied with dull pain and numbness in my right arm and a right sided migraine on and off. I am eating medicine to control my hypo thyroid too which is under control. I have bloated off late despite controlled diet and rigid exercise. My neuro has prescribed: ecosprin 75 mg, Betacap TR 40 mg, Topomac 25mg and Resuvastatur 10 mg. Is this the right diagnosis and medication. My brain and neck MRI scan was normal.

Brief Answer:
Current medications are correct.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your symptoms and diagnostic test reports.

I agree with your doctor's treatment approach.

Main problem is migraine, for which topamac (topiramate) is a good drug to reduce the frequency and severity of headaches. Betacap TR (propranolol) is also for the same purpose.

In the MRA, mild blockage of blood supply (atherosclerosis) has been found, for which aspirin and rosuvastatin have been advised.

The leg swelling and pain may or may not be related to migraine. Discuss with your physician about it.

I hope my reply has helped you.

I would be pleased to answer, if you have any follow up queries or if you require any further information.

Just scared to eat the steroid for long period as my doctor mentioned they will go on for at least 2 years and ecosprin for life time. Is it safe to eat it for such long periods without adverse side effects?

Brief Answer:
There is no steroid in your prescription.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back.

There are no steroids in your prescription.

In your case, the medicines may not be needed for long time. Your symptoms and abnormalities are minor, so, treatment may be stopped in 1-2 years.

Best wishes,
