What Causes Painful Left Salivary Gland Under Jaw Bone?

default
Posted on Mon, 23 Mar 2015
Question: I do not have any tooth pain or any pain inside my mouth; however, I have left gland pain just under my jaw bone and along my my left jaw--about mid-way, but not as far up as the joint. I don't suspect a tooth problem only because I had the tooth just above the pain pulled about 5 years ago. I only noticed the pain because I was propping my head on my hand and realized I was tender there. That was last night, and now that I know I am tender, I keep testing for where it is tender, which isn't helping, I am sure. When I suck in air through my teeth (like to check for sensitivity), it does not get worse, nor does eating cold food make it worse.

Brief Answer:
gum/teeth infection, salivary gland disorder

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your query. I have gone through your query.
As far as the pain in the gland is concerned I have two possibilities.
Either it can be secondary to gum or teeth infection. The second possibility can be a salivary gland inflammation secondary to any stone in the gland or bacterial infection of the glands.
Since you are telling there is no pain in the teeth it can be secondary to salivary gland disorders. Nothing to be panic, consult a oral physician and get it evaluated. You need to take a radiograph like OPG to rule out any teeth infection. Mean while you can take a course of antibiotics like amoxycillin and metronidazole (if you are not allergic). I hope my answer will help you. If any queries are there, reply me back.
Take care..
