Brief Answer:
Consider using ranitidine for acid reflux/gastritis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

I understand from the history you wrote here that your stomach problems started after using L-glutamine (amino acid) supplement? I am not sure what you are using it for. Are you still using it?

The symptoms you are describing sound like acid reflux and possible gastritis. I recommend you try an acid reducer to allow your stomach and esophagus to heal. Consider using Zantac (ranitidine) which you can buy at any drug store without prescription: 150 mg twice a day. It may take a day or two to start to feel better.

How long has this problem been going on? If it just started, you may only need to use the Zantac for a few days. If your symptoms have been going on for longer, consider taking the Zantac for approximately 1 month.

If the Zantac does not help at all, then do go in to see your doctor.

Unless you have been told by a doctor to use the L-glutamine to treat a medical problem, please discontinue it.

Please let me know if I can provide further information.

I do not have acid reflux. My stool is dry and alittle bit of constipation. 30 minutes after I eat I feel empty like I did not eat. My urine is normal and clear.

Right after I eat the nausea goes away for about 30 minutes. ( That is the main problem of nausea. )

My energy level is low and yesterday I felt a little fever but not today. I also I have some chills. Also bitter taste in my mouth.

Do you still think Zantac is the best options ?

What food should I eat ?

Thank-You

Kamma

Detailed Answer:
So it sounds like the pain and bitter taste did not start during or immediately after the L-glutamine. May not be related.

Bitter taste is usually either from stomach acid that is coming up (even if you are not aware of or do not feel the acid coming up); or it can (less often) be bile. Usually if the problem is from bile/gall bladder, there is pain on the right side of the abdomen. But not always.

I am concerned about the chills as this may be from a fever. Can you take your temperature with a thermometer and let me know?

It will not hurt to take Zantac, and if the problem is from the stomach, it will help that. But if the problem is from the gall bladder or pancreas, it will not help. For that, you would need to go in to to doctor and have an ultrasound to see what is going on in those organs. There sometimes can be an infection. But usually with a gall bladder problem, the pain is worse after eating due to the gall bladder trying to empty bile then. Also, since your stools and urine are normal color, there is unlikely to be a gall stone obstruction.

So let's come up with a plan:
If the pain is not severe, and if you do not have a fever over 100.3, try the Zantac, and eat small amounts at a time, but more frequently. Bananas, apple sauce, toast are usually well tolerated, and any other mild, non-greasy, foods that you tolerate well are fine too. Avoid acidic, citrus, spicy foods right now. Also avoid caffeine and alcohol.

If the pain is worsening, or is severe, or if you have a significant fever, then go in to be seen - to an urgent care clinic or ER.

It may be a passing stomach "flu" (gastroenteritis) which can cause stomach problems and low grade fever. But don't wait to go in to be seen if it gets worse instead of better.
