What Causes Pain In The Shoulder After Injury?

default
Posted on Thu, 3 Nov 2016
Question: yesterday I dove into second base....didn't feel anything pop in my shoulder but had pain in my right shoulder few minutes later. The pain is very precise...it is in the top- front of the shoulder. I played the rest of the game hitting two more deep balls very hard. the only pain I felt was while running I felt I had to carry my right arm. Incidentally, I am a left handed batter. I later tried to check swing on a slider in the dirt and was driven to my knees from the pain. I iced regularly last night. It still hurts to lift the arm above my head. Is this a Rotator Cuff Injury and should I play today and just hit,DH which doesn't seem to bother the injury? I understand that I am 54 years old and shouldn't play but can I?

Brief Answer:
Hello. This sounds like a sprain

Detailed Answer:
Hello.

With no pop and no immediate pain, this is likely just a shoulder sprain and no major rotator cuff injury.

I should tell you just to rest the should for another two days, but so long as all you do is bat and field for now, I think you'll be OK
