default
Posted on Fri, 30 Jan 2015
Question: I have a problem with my penis.
When flaccid it is going a lot smaller than normal and feels hard inside like when erect. There is also pain at the base on the underside of the penis and along the underside up to about half way up. It's been going on for about two weeks. Any ideas what the problem is?

It may be prostate problem or urinary tract infection

Hello Mr XXXXXXX

Thanks for writing to us.

Your symptoms suggest there is some problem with prostate gland or there may be urinary tract infection.

You should go for urine routine and micro examination as well as urine culture .You also may require ultrasound of pelvic region.

Please revert back to me with more details.

Your age?

is there any discharge from penis?

Is there burning during urination?

Is there any difficulty in passing urine?

Is there any injury over that region?

Is there any injury during sex?

Thanks.

There is no discharge.
There is a slight burning when urinating.
There is no difficulty urinating but it feels like I'm going a little more often.
There has been no injury I am aware of either sexual or not.

It is painful when I sit.
I have had blood tests and urine tests and there is no sign of infection.
I had a finger exam for the prostrate but it was inconclusive.
I have had two weeks of two types of antibiotics just in case and there has been no change.
I've had non specific urethritis in the past but over twenty years ago.

Does this help?

Please come back to me with your opinions.

Thanks
XXXX

Hi.

I do not have any reports to upload.
Only what I have told you.
I have been seen by a GP and in A&E which I visited due to the level of pain at the time.

I have been on Ciprofloxacin and Coamoxyclav.

The pain is mostly in the base of the penis at the moment and as described the penis is smaller than usual and firm.

I also have bilateral varicoceles but have little pain from these at the moment. I have had these for twenty years and the current symptoms are presenting differently to those associated with the varicoceles in the past.

Please give more help.

Sorry. I am 43.

Brief Answer:
Please consult general surgeon for evaluation

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for more useful information.

Type of pain, history of chronic varicoceles and smaller and firm penis suggest some problem of prostate likely.

You need to be examined by surgeon and ultrasound needed to diagnose exact problem.

Best doctor to deal with such type of problem is general surgeon. After examining you surgeon doctor may refer you to urologist if needed.
