What Causes Pain And Pressure In Bladder While Urinating?

default
Posted on Mon, 1 Dec 2014
Question: Hello, I am a 47 year ol male. About 2 weeks ago I was intimate with a woman. We did not have intercourse, but she did rub her naked vagina on my naked penis for a few seconds, there was no penetration. A few days after this occurrence i started to feel a slight discomfort when I urinated, and a pressure in my bladder. I went to the doctor about a week after the occurrence and had a urine culture done for STDs. He also prescribed a one day does of Azithromycin. The results came back negative for any STDs. I am still feeling the sensitivity in my bladder, and slight pain in urination. Any ideas? Could the tests be wrong? Could i have something else? Could it be Prostatitis?

Brief Answer:
Inv-urine exam,clinical exam & PSA levels required

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query on HealthcareMagic.

Pain during urination and pressure in bladder can be due to urinary tract infection.
A routine urine examination and microscopy of urine should be done to look for any evidence of infection.
The possibility of STD is ruled out since all tests are for STD are negative.
If prostatitis is present, there will be evidence of infection in the urine.
If there is evidence of infection in urine, clinical examination will determine that prostate is the site of infection or not.
Thus, you need to consult an urologist for clinical assessment of prostate and estimation of PSA levels which is raised in prostatitis.

the doctor did an initial urine analysis at my visit and it showed no infection. Then he sent urine out to the lab for the STD tests. Thats what has me confused. Could I have prostatitis without an infection?

Brief Answer:
Prostatitis shows up in urine examination

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome again,
Prostatitis usually shows up in urine analysis.
Thus, I suggest you to get a routine urine examination and if there evidence of infection in urine examination, a urine culture needs to be performed.
In the meanwhile a clinical assessment for prostatitis also needs to be done.

ok, i am not understanding,, is the urine exam you are speaking of different than the one I just said they did? He did a quick urine exam in the office for an infection, and then sent urine out for the exam for the STD's, both were negative. What urine exam are you speaking of thats different than this?

Brief Answer:
Repeat urine examination & prostatic exam required

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome again,
I am not speaking of a different urine examination but I am suggesting to get the test repeated for routine microscopy and leukocyte esterase.
Leukocytes esterase is specifically raised in bacterial infection.
Along with urine examination, consultation with an urologist will be helpful to assess the prostate.
Prostatitis causes lower abdominal discomfort and pain along with infection in the urinary tract.

I hope you are convinced.

Thanks and take care
