What Causes Pain And Numbness In Leg?

default
Posted on Thu, 12 Feb 2015
Question: I have had sciatic like pain in my left leg for a couple of weeks. I also have some numbness in my right leg, usually when i am standing and walking, and it is aleviated when i sit or lie down. Besides this i have intermitant chest pain which feels like heartburn. My supervisor said the numbness could mean heart trouble. I have been feeling extra tired lately too, just moving around. I used to smoke but quit 5 or 6 days ago. I also have high cholesterol and high blood pressure sometimes.

Brief Answer:
Symptoms are seem to be connected with spine and stomach problems

Detailed Answer:
Dear Mrs,

Pain and numbness of leg can be caused either spine and joint problems, or peripheral artery disease.
In your case it is most likely to be a spine problem. So I would advise you to see your doctor to check vertebra. If there is no problem, the next examination should be inferior extremities duplex ultrasound.

Heart burn which revealed with antacids mostly refers to stomach problems.

For your cholesterol, if you don't have additional risk factors, I would advise you first try diet; don't use products rich in animal fat, fast food, soda, don't eat sweets, fruits after 6 pm. Salt restriction will lead to decrease in blood pressure. Exercise more and regularly, after your leg problems are solved.

I would also advise you to monitor you blood pressure, if high blood pressure data are observed frequently, I would advise you to refer to your doctor to prescribe a medication

Hope I could help you

Wishing you good health

Thank you Dr. Baghdasaryan. I have an appointment with my GP on February 5 but i'm going to try to get an earlier one. I'm already on meds for high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Could the numbness in my leg and the fatique i feel when walking be connected? When it happens all i want to do is sit or lie down. I never experienced this combination before.

Brief Answer:
They can be connected, but for exact answer need to undergo examinations

Detailed Answer:
Dear Mrs,

Numbness in your leg and fatigue can be connected also with peripheral artery disease, which is usually result of high cholesterol. But in your case symptoms are more likely to spine problems.

You can use Ibuprofen and antacides until your appointment with your GP
