What Causes Olfactory Sensations In Dreams?

default
Posted on Wed, 9 Nov 2016
Question: Hi I had the strangest dream last night that I smelt something burning. Today I have felt body aches and have felt congested so wondering it that was just part of me fighting off something (def felt body aches all day and a slight headache that went away after I took a Advil and some immune boost) I think I have freaked myself out reading the Internet. But it was like I was sniffing to open my sinuses and it was stinging and felt like a burning smell does that make since? And today I feel pressure in my face. This has never happened before so I am wondering what it could mean? I think I got scared because it says a sign of a stroke or tumor which scared me! Do you have any advice? Again no headaches In general.

Brief Answer:
Olfactory dreams which are often seen when you are slightly awake

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have gone through your query and understand your concerns.
Smell during dreams are common when you are slightly awake and mostly the smell will be coming from outside not in the dream and your brain recognizes that and wakes you up to know what is happeneing. But keep in mind that as you are stressed out because of the dream you had all those symptoms. Advil is the better choice which you can take at that time. It is advisable to have a CT brain noncontrast to rule out any pathology in the brain for safe side.

Hope this answers your query.

regards,
Dr.Alekhya.
