What Causes Oily Skin While On Seasonique Birth Control Pills?

default
Posted on Tue, 6 Sep 2016
Question: I've been taking Seasonique birth control pills for 8 years and have had no problems. Over the past 4 months my skin has been getting extremely oily to the point of making me upset. I see a dermatologist and have also used episiotomyEpiduo and Benzaclin for years. She just recently put me on Spironolactone 50 mg to help. I asked her if I needed to switch birth control pills and she said no if I'm happy with my cycles. Could my birth control pills be causing me problems after all these years of taking it? Am I on the right track to fix the problem?

Brief Answer:
Oral contraceptives won't cause these problems, treatment given is fine

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for being at healthcaremagic
I am Dr Asmeet Kaur Sawhney, a dermatologist.
I have gone through your complaints and understand your concern.
Birth control pills and spironolactone are fine for control of oiliness and acne.
Oral contraceptive pills will not cause oiliness or acne problem. In fact they are used as a hormonal therapy for treating acne patients.
You can also continue using epiduo and benzaclin gel.
Continue using spironolactone for 2-3 months and if you feel the response is less than satisfactory you can consult your doctor again and ask her to consider starting you on isotretinoin capsules as they are very effective treatment for oiliness as well as acne.
