What Causes Numbness In The Limbs And High Heart Rate?

default
Posted on Wed, 8 Feb 2017
Question: I have been doing about 1/2 to 1g of cocaine a day for the past 3 weeks. With less before that and more time off since I was working But during the holidays I am off for 3 weeks. My heart rate is about 90-100 at rest and BP was wnl. But I started feeling some numbness in my fingers this morning and after the last hit the numbness got worse and is a weird slightly shaky feeling in his left hand. For a short time 5 min or so, his upper part of the right arm felt a little weird but not numb at all. sensation was equal in both hands. Only fine motor movements in left small finger and the one next to it seem affected by shakiness and that weird feeling like it could be numb but it is not. Should I just rest up or call 911, I took 2 aspirins already. I know the addiction part of it so that is not my question so please answer the specific question with the specific symptimps. No change in vision, lower extremities, smile is even, talk and thought process both normal...please let me know asap

Brief Answer:
No need to call 911 at this time!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have reviewed your information fully and they are not suggestive of a heart attack or a stroke at this time. There is no need for immediate medical attention at this time. I am certain you are well informed that cocaine would increase your risk of having a possible heart attack. You may want to consider revisiting that.

I hope this addresses your query fully. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

I went to sleep and in the morning all the s/s have gone away. My HR is about 82-84 which is my baseline. Are you able to give me your best GUESS on why I experienced these s/s and I also do experience increased shakiness/cold feeling in the morning. It goes away within 15 minutes or so. Possibly due to vasoconstriction and slower circulation of the blood and dehydration during sleep (correct?) I know I need to address my addiction and at the very least have to take a break and not use it daily. I do not drink alcohol or party. I simply relax with more energy. Always make sure I am hydrated and take an aspirin. Always get sleep in-between and average about 6 hrs a night of sleep during the past 3 weeks which I consider a mild binge due to my work inactivity. But usually I sleep even more and take less and not every day. Also spread out over 24 hrs and not in a short period of 2-3 hrs like people do when partying. I try to minimize my risk while trying to deal w my addiction with the best way I can without compromising work. I cant afford living expenses w/o work and I don't spend a lot on the product and make sure it has no intense stimulants since I feell them right away due to generalized anxiety disorder.

Brief Answer:
Vasoconstriction related to cold temperatures!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

My best guess would be low temperatures causing vasoconstriction. For how long has this been going on? Do you experience similar symptoms even during summer months?

I am happy you are fully aware of your addiction and the possible risks. I hope you would consider to address that sooner than later. It would be of great help to you.

I wish you well.

It just started the day I asked you after the night I had slight numbness in the hand. I have never experienced this before and i am back at work and don't have as much time so I have less time and have decreased my intake and have been sleeping a lot more and the slight shivereing and coldness is almost completely gone. Thank you for your answer...I will follow up with any further questions as needed
