What Causes Numbness In Leg Post Knee Replacement Surgery?

default
Posted on Thu, 21 May 2015
Question: I had knee replacement surgery 6 months ago. I have had numbness in my leg below the knee and the bottom of my foot feels like I am walking on pillows. The surgeon says it is neuropathy, but I did not have this before the surgery. I would appreciate a second opinion in regard to this diagnosis.

Brief Answer:
It seems to be neuropathy.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your query.

It seems to be neuropathy. I do not think it is related to the knee replacement surgery. A detailed clinical examination and few investigations like EMG & Nerve conduction studies are needed to establish a correct diagnosis of your problem. I suggest you to consult a Neurophysician and follow the advice.

I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.

Take care

I received a nerve conduction study from my surgeon's referral. The diagnosis was neuropathy. I can not understand, that if I did not have this condition before my surgery, how all of a sudden the day after my surgery, I have it.

Brief Answer:
could be because of nerve damage.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

It could be because of nerve damage due to tourniquet or tight bandage during surgery.

Warm regards.
