default
Posted on Mon, 2 Jun 2014
Question: I have been taking metropolol 25mg and two lisiniprol 10/12.5 mg for quite a while for high blood pressure. I have lost 42 pounds and I still have 26 to go. I just happened to check my blood pressure and the reading was 108/71 pulse 52 on a wrist monitor. On an arm monitor it was 132/67 pulse 54. I have not taken my pills for today yet 1: do u think wrist monitors are accurate? 2: when do u think I need to visit my doctor for a review of medication?

Brief Answer:
Metropolol is causing Bradycardia...

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thank you for posting.

I have gone through your query and I understand your concerns.

The most accurate method for blood pressure measurement is arm monitor.
Readings of the measurement shows that you have a normal blood pressure but low pulse.
You suffer from Bradycardia because your heart pulse is under 60 bpm.
Bradycardia might be caused by Metropolol.

You need the following tests to find the cause of Bradycardia:
1. Electrocardiogram.
2. Glucose test, to exclude Diabetes mellitus.
3. Lipid test, to check cholesterol, tryglicerides, low density lipoprotein(LDL) and high density lipoprotein(HDL) levels.

You should consult your cardiologist for a physical examination.

You should also consult your doctor for a review of medication as soon as possible, because metropolol is causing Bradycardia.

Ask me for anything unclear.

All the best.
Dr. Behar.
