What Causes Neck Pain And Swelling In Arms And Feet?

default
Posted on Mon, 13 Jul 2015
Question: I've been having pain in my neck, swelling of my hands and feet for quite some time now and now there is a soft lump next to my neck more in that dip above the shoulder. I have congestion with no fever and to top it off, I've had constant chronic vaginosis with pelvic pain for well over a year. Medication does not help it. According to doctors though, I'm fine. If I was, I wouldn't be going through half of this.
To add to my symptoms, I just wanted to add that my mother has MS and I had tests done 2 years ago which showed nothing, but I promise I've had more headaches and neck aches in the past year than in my whole life.

Brief Answer:
possible cervical and lumbar spondylosis....explained

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query to HCM,
The typical symptoms of pain in neck extending to the occipital region with frequent posterior headaches with extension into the arms and legs accompanied with swelling indicates towards possibility of CERVICAL SPONDYLOSIS ( soft lump at the neck region near cervico thoracic junction. As there are no joint pains be it fleeting of continuous yet , MS as a diagnosis is unlikely . More over if the M-protein test is negative then you don't have it.
It is suggested that you should get a cervical and limbo-sacral X-ray done to rule out any spondylitis which is the most common reason for such manifestations and can easily be managed conservatively with physiotherapy and good postural practices.
Pelvic pain as you said you have been suffering from a year now, its likely to be PID, which needs to be confirmed by clinical exam and ultrasound pelvis and would have to be treated with antibiotics, so a gyn exam would be must for the same. But it is unrelated to your neck pain and swelling in arms and feet .
another important consideration is Obesity which can act as a potential risk factor for spondylosis, so if you are overweight and BMI is more than 29 then you should be reducing weight as well.

Could any of my symptoms be related to colon cancer. I hate to say this but since last night, I've had a hard time breathing and I just went to the bathroom and wiped away a lot of blood from my rectal region. I've had bleeding hemorrhoids all my life but this is a lot of blood

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Colon cancer per se would not just manifestas bleeding alone but would bring lot of cachexia, indigestion, symptoms of irritable bowel and even dyspepsia along with it. As there is substantial blood loss per rectum and you are already a known case of hemorrhoids and as the blood too was fresh blood the likely cause of per rectal bleed was hemorrhoids and unlikely to be colonic. But nevertheless a proctoscopic and then if required followed by a colonoscopic evaluation and if any lesion determined then biopsy shall help establish a colon Ca diagnosis.
For symptomatic hemorrhoids hemorrhoidectomy is the only curable modality and should be opted for.You need to get a evaluation both lab and local examination done by a physician before anydiagnosis can be substantiated.

The only reason I say colon cancer is because of the bleeding and I've had irritable bowels since October 2013 on my honeymoon. It's very embarrassing when it hits me because it's near impossible to hold it. It comes out of nowhere and happens whenever it feels the need to. I have been cutting back on certain foods and drink because it aggravates my stomach, but I'm truly concerned with my lumbar pain, bleeding and irritable, unpredictable bowels

Hello,
thanks for the follow up,
If you have irritable bowel as well then it is important that you should be keeping a check on your eating habits very strictly. You must strictly avoid any fast foods like pizzas and burgers especially which has mayonnaise and add roughage and salads to your diet. Soda drinks have to be completely avoided and plain water should be preferred.
But presently you should get your haemorrhoids treated on a priority here as bleeding can be severe in cases of internal haemorrhoids sometimes. IBS management is generally conservative and can be continued along with.
