What Causes Nausea, Tremors, Weakness, Hot And Cold Flashes Post Consumption Of Alcohol?

Question: on Saturday night I had a little too much to drink. I've never thrown up before from drinking but Saturday night I did. woke up Sunday hating myself. didn't have a headache, but I had this awful feeling in my stomach like whatever was in there needed to come out, maybe like water or something I hadn't gotten out the night before. I tried all day to vomit it up but I just couldn't do it. I never once got out of bed except to try to make myself throw up. it wasn't the usual hangover feeling though. I felt as if my stomach was tightening on it's own, it felt very uneasy, I got hot and cold flashes, I was very shaky, very weak, very hungry feeling but at the same time wasn't, I would eat bread and feel better for a couple minutes then the sickness feeling would return. I went to bed hoping I would feel better the next day. woke up Monday feeling ok until about an hour into being up. the tightening of the stomach muscles got worse, much like it felt Sunday, felt nauseous, sick, shaky, weak, haven't eaten still, water makes it worse, walking seems to make it go away but as soon as I'm still again it comes back feeling like I have to throw up. eating makes it go away temporarily but then it comes back. ate chicken noodle soup and toast yesterday. belching non stop and I noticed the more I do it the better I feel for a little bit. got a little better last night but came back this morning. still belching. I really don't think this has anything to do with the alcohol Saturday night but more of an internal problem. I have this hungry feeling but when I eat (toast) it stays. stomach is still tight feeling like when you're nervous, feeling like I need to throw up, water doesn't help

Brief Answer:
possibility of gastritis

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to us. I can understand your concern.

Your symptoms suggestive of alcohol induced gastritis. it is better to take anti acidity drugs (like pentoprazole or rabeprazole), anti-spasmodic (like dicyclomine) and anti-vomiting (like domperidone or ondansetrone). For proper evaluation blood tests(Complete blood count, Liver function tests), ultrasound (sonography of abdomen) and upper GI scope(endoscopy) are required.

It can be direct alcohol related inflammation or alcohol has precipitated already underlying inflammation. Long term management can be planned after evaluation.

Hope I have answered your query, I will be happy to help further.

Regards,

Dr.Chintan Solanki.

Is this something I would have to go to the doctor for? Does this have anything to do with me taking more Benadryl than I should have Thursday night? I was recovering from a bad sunburn and had an allergic reaction to the burn with something called "Hell's Itch". I was taking Benadryl to relieve the itching and maybe took 10 within 24 hours instead of the recommended 6. I did have sort of an "out of it" reaction Thursday night and I knew I had taken too much. I may have taken 2 or 3 more Friday during the day to be sure the itching didn't return. Would that have messed up my stomach lining and then the alcohol made it worse? Will this go away on it's own or is it an emergency to go get it checked out? If I had better insurance I would go no questions asked but I have to pay for everything they do up front with no reimbursement or help of insurance :(

over the past few months I have had bright red blood in my stools as well. not so much all the time but almost EVERY time with softer stools. im thinking maybe that has to do with this issue now and has been present for a while?

Brief Answer:
consultation with doctor and check up are required

Detailed Answer:
Hi Dear,

Thanks for follow up and necessary information. Benadryl cannot cause such abdominal discomfort. It can cause excessive sedation. From your history problem seems to be due to alcohol. Past history of blood in stool suggests some problem in gastro intestinal system. Current episode after drinking clearly suggests some underlying pathology. Consulting doctor and reaching to proper diagnosis will help to treat the current problem, to prevent worsening and to decide future intake of alcohol. I highly recommend consulting doctor as soon as possible.

Take care young lady.

I find it weird that the cause of this can be a long-term alcohol intake. I NEVER drink. I maybe have one or two drink every couple of months. I haven't taken in as much alcohol as I did Saturday night in a LONGGG time, like a year. So this can't be caused by alcohol use. It has to be something else.

Brief Answer:
you may be right

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

You may be right there it is something else. I have already mentioned possibility that alcohol is just precipitating factor of underlying pathology.

Better to consult doctor and reach to conclusion for better health.

Wish you good health.
