Question: Hi my daughter is 5 years and 10 months old. Her weight is 14 kgs. She has been around 12 to 13 kgs since last two years. she is very active though and a very fast learner. Off late she has been complaining of nausea and giddiness on and off. Is this something to worry about? She doesn't eat very nicely since the beginning. Should I get any investigations done? What do you advise?

Brief Answer:
The problem you report, is faced by numerous parents.Do not worry.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone through the question and understand your concerns. I do not think that there is anything to worry about, but her growth needs monitoring. I would suggest the body weight to be measured every three months and plotted on a growth chart.

It is very common for children to be fussy eaters. The only thing that you can do is to coax them to eat someway or the other. The things to be done are:
* Keep meal time fixed. Make her dine with family. Keep television off during meals.
* Take her along when you go to fetch groceries. Ask her to choose vegetables and fruits. Make food preparations using these ingredients and they would be easier to feed.
* Avoid junk food but give her small but frequent feeds.

You can get her thyroid profile checked, but other than that, I would not suggest any other tests.

I would not really bother about the giddiness and nausea and think that to be temporary. Unless it settles soon, you can visit your pediatrician and get her evaluated. He would also be able to take care of the growth monitoring.
