Please find details below

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
There is mild bulging of calyceal system in left kidney and no kidney
stones have been found, therefore

(i) It can be that the bladder was completely full at the of ultrasound scan however since it is involving only left side therefore this idea is not much acceptable

(ii) The kidney pelvicalyceal system is appearing full by itself (extrarenal pelvis) and is an extension of normal appearance. An extra renal pelvis is a variation of normal and does not cause any symptoms.

(iii) Rarely an infection of urinary system and kidneys (recent or old) can cause such a finding but this is likely only if the patient has symptoms like pain in the region of kidney and problems like burning urination or discoloration of urine or any kidney infections in the past.

(iv) Stones in lower ureter can also cause fullness of pelvicalyceal system and this needs to be cross checked by seeing the left ureter opening in the urinary bladder.

(v) Any mass in abdomen or pelvis including a significantly enlarged prostate might be causing pressure at the opening of left ureter in the urinary bladder. Prostate enlargement can happen at your age of 59 years and if present would have been seen on the ultrasound scan.

From the above, it appears that you do not have any stone/ prostate enlargement/ or recently passed out stone because you do not have pain and difficulty in passing urine and there is no mention of it in the report.

One of the possibilities might be an infection in the bladder for which you are taking antibiotics. If you have not yet started antibiotics then I would have suggested you to do a urine culture and sensitivity test. If you have taken antibiotics then doing urine culture and sensitivity test will not be useful.

Please have antibiotics complete course for a week and see if your symptoms are cured. Please drink lots of water when taking antibiotics and this will flush your system. If the symptoms are still present then it can be due to mental stress and anxiety in the mornings.

Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Regards,
Dr.Vivek
