Question: I'm a 35 year old male.I am 175 cms and weigh 68 kgs.I've been having mild pain and discomfort on the right side of my stomach during the early morning hours for the past one week. However it subsides in sometime only to reappear on the next day.The pain is a little more than mild especially if had consumed alcohol or heavy dinner on the previous day.My stools look normal however at times it is pale.I'm worried because my father was a colon cancer patient before he passed away this year. Please advise.

Detailed Answer:
Hello! Thanks for putting your query in HCM. I am a Gastroenterologist. The pain appears to be due to acid peptic disease for which I will advise you to take a proton pump inhibitor like rabeprazole and a prokinetic agent like domperidone.

Since you don't have any symptoms related to colon as the pain occurs after heavy meals or drink, suggest that pain is related to upper gastrointestinal tract. Moreover there is no alteration in bowel habits and no bleeding per rectum. However I will advise you to begin surveillance or screening for colon cancer with colonoscopy at age of 40 years.

I hope I have answered your query and this will help you. Wish you a good health. If you have further query I will like to answer that too.
