What Causes Lymph Nodal Swelling Under Right Jaw, Ear Pain And Swallowing Difficulties?

default
Posted on Sat, 3 Oct 2015
Question: Good afternoon. I have had a swollen gland under my right jaw for the past three days. On the first two days the pain from the swelling was causing ear pain and pain at the back of my tongue as well, causing pain while swallowing. I began taking ibuprofen for the inflammation and a mild fever (99.5) yesterday. At that time, I also had a cough (dry, unproductive) that developed. Since then the swollen gland has decreased in size but is still inflamed, though not to the point of ear pain. I have had an itchiness in my left lung that comes and goes periodically. Is there anything that I can do for the itchiness in my chest (left side only), and are antibiotics warranted at this time?

Brief Answer:
Symptomatic treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. Right submandibular lymph nodal swelling with ear pain and swallowing difficulties and ear pain with dry productive cough and low grade fever are all very suggestive of upper airways involvement. These are mostly viral and self resolve. I would say antibiotics can wait as your symptoms have already improved a lot. Just drink adequate fluids, do aspirin and salt water gargles and prefer hot beverages like herbal tea mixed with honey etc. It will help sooth the throat and help the reduction of dry cough. COntinue taking ibuprofen it will reduce the inflammation as well as ear pain.

As far as itchiness is concerned take some antihistamines for it and see if it responds to it. other wise get it assessed .

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.
