What Causes Low Platelet Count After Chemotherapy For Breast Cancer?

default
Posted on Thu, 8 Jun 2017
Question: My aunt diagnosed with T2N0M0 ER+ PR+ HER2- breast carcinoma is currently undergoing radiation therapy which gets over in another 4 days.

Before that she has given 4 cycles of TC chemotherapy after surgery.

Not couple of days back the radiation oncologist suggested a CNC test and report is saying low platelet count of 88.

Her last chemo was done on Apr 12th, 2017. Please see attached the CBC test report.

My questions:

1. Do I need to worry with the platelet count mentioned in the report and what action should be taken immediately?
2. What question should be asked with the medical and radiation oncologists?

Thanks,
XXXX

Brief Answer:
Hello dear. It will improve on its own

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear. I have gone through the details. Si a low platelet count post chemotherapy is a common phenomenon and suggest the residual effect of chemo and radiation on marrow. However it is not that low so as to warrant any action. It is going to improve on its own.
Radiation can be done easily with a count of 50000 and above and there will be no harm. There is absolutely no need to worry.
Thanks and regards
