What Causes Low Grade Fever, Soreness In Lower Back And Groin Area?

default
Posted on Mon, 2 Mar 2015
Question: I am a 35 year old female and have been having low grade fever (37.3 - 37.7 celsius) for a few months. My heart would race after a small activity and my body (especially my knee joints, lower back, groin area) would feel sore. My knee joints would be swollen as well. I am also experiencing hair loss on two sides of the forehead. I have seen hair growth on a few occasions - for example after an initial visit to acupuncturist but things would go back to the old way again. All of these symptoms hit me pretty much at the same time more than a year ago (except for low grade fever, which I am not positive since I didn't measure until recently). I am running out of options on what to do. I have done numerous blood tests administered by my rheumatologist, family physician, infectious disease doctors and so far nothing came out positive. Please help.

Thank you for writing on health care magic

Well i am trying to summarize your symptoms here, do correct me if i am wrong

1. Alopecia
2. Low grade fever
3. Joint pains and swelling especially the knee joints.

I would like to ask a few more questions before i can really get the direction we are heading at:

1. Do you experience oral ulcers ?

2. Have you noticed any rash over the face or eyes or any other parts of the body

3. Has the knee joint swelling been aspirated or injected yet?Did any doctor document it?

4. Do you experience dry eyes or dry mouth?

5. What about weight loss or appetite loss?

6. I would like to review the blood reports especially of the inflammatory markers( ESR, CRP), Autoimmune profile( ANA, ENA). That would give me a fair idea

Do let me know these queries and we can see where we head from here

Await your reply

Dear Dr Naval,

Is alopecia the same as female pattern baldness?

1. No oral ulcers. I am positive on HSV-1 and EBV.
2. Haven't noticed that.
3. Nothing is done to the joint swelling. Even though it's visibly swollen, I can still function. I have done ultrasound and MRI on the knee and aside from the swelling, doctors are not seeing excessive fluid in my joint and doesn't know the cause of it.
4. Yes. My tongue is coated with white stuff that I can scrap off. I am tested negative with candida.
5. No weight loss or appetite loss.
6. ANA SCR, IFA is negative. (Done in XXXXXXX 2015)
ESR is 3 (Range is 0 - 24) (Done in 7/11/2014)
LYME is fine.
The one thing that's not normal from a recent physical is that my URIC ACID is 2.0 (Range is 2.5 - 7.0)
I am not seeing ENA or CRP on my reports. My rheumatologist has asked for me to do ESR, CBC, Comprehensive Metabolic Panel, CRP, ANA and XXXXXXX I will be doing it later this week and can report back with findings.

Thank you.

Good evening

thank you for your reply

Yeah i would suggest you get all the work up done as advised. At times it does happen something beneath is hidden and doesnt surface. So at least these tests will give us a clue to autoimmune cause. Also get your vitamin D levels tested amongst the other tests you are giving.

Do let me know the reports. Will help you give some insight onto it.
