What Causes Left-sided Numbness In Back?

default
Posted on Fri, 29 May 2015
Question: I've had a numb area, left side, on my back approximately 2 inches from my spine, where my bra strap hooks, for about 6 months. About 3 weeks ago I noticed a raspberry looking spot 3 inches above the numb area. I stopped wearing a bra for 10 days, raspberry spot has gotten a little bigger. Regarding numbness, it feels like my cheek does after I've had a cavity filled at the dentist.

Brief Answer:
Raspberry spot possibly folliculitis .Should resolve with antibiotics.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Madam.

I understand your concern.

You possibly seem to have folliculitis of the skin on the back.

This is due to infection under the skin enclosed by tight bra strap.

This will settle down with a course of topical antibiotic cream like Soframycin and system antibiotics like Amoxiclav 625 mg one tab twice a day for 3 days.

This drug has to be taken only under medical supervision.
If you can also post a clinical image of the part affected, I can confirm it visually.

Pertaining to cheek numbness,it appears to be directly related to the dental implant.

It should soon resolve.

Post your further queries if any.
Thank you.

I was explaining how the numbness feels,I've not had dental implants. Better choice of words, it feels like I've had a novicaine shot. I have not had a novicaine shot or any type of shots in my back. Is folliculitus an infection of hair follicles?

Brief Answer:
Yes its an infection of hair follicle.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Madam.

I apologise for the misinterpretation of the words.

Yes folliculitis is infection of the hair follicle.

Its gets precipitated by tight clothing ,as in your case.

This can grow big like a painful lump .

The numbness can be due to direct pressure on nerve either secondary to compression by bra strap or by the inflammation due to folliculitis.

This will subside with treatment of folliculitis.

Post your further queries if any.
Thank you.
