What Causes Left-sided Lower Abdominal Pain And Pelvic Pain Post A Hysterectomy?

default
Posted on Mon, 23 May 2016
Question: I have had a total laparoscopically assisted vaginal hysterectomy 3 weeks ago today with preservation of the ovaries but removal of fallopian tubes, uterus and cervix. My hysterectomy was done because of established adenomyosis and a history of endometriosis for which i had a laparoscopic procedure 14 months ago to remove stage 4-5 deep infiltrating lesions in my rights and left lower pelvis. I am 53 and have not gone through menopause.
I had a ct scan performed last XXXXXXX due to my ongoing pelvic pain which identified a dilated left gonadal vein and dilated pelvic venous plexus. My previous gaenocologist dismissed this as irrelevant. Not sure if this has any relevance but thought i should mention.

I am experiencing lower abdominal and left sided abdominal pain which wakes me every night for which i take panadol which pariallly alleviates the pain allowing me to sleep. The pain comes when lying down and alleviates when i get up. If the pain has been worse as last night the symptoms take longer to go away but return when i go to sleep each night. I often feel quite unwell with lower abdominal heaviness and pain which is the case now as i sit at my desk working. Is this normal at this stage after surgery.

Brief Answer:
Visit your gynaecologist

Detailed Answer:
Hello Mam, thanks for trusting health care magic.
No dear, it is not normal to have such a severe pain at least once a day everyday and that too three weeks after surgery.
It seems like there is some adhesion formation at the site of surgery which is common at this interval in patients with history of endometriosis.
So get an appointment from your operating gynaecologist and get yourself examined at the earliest.
Take care

Dr Manisha
