What Causes Left-sided Chest Pain And Numbness With Shortness Of Breath?

default
Posted on Tue, 29 Dec 2015
Question: I have been having chest pains and a numb feeling on my left side. I went to the hospital twice and they tell me i am all clear. However the symptoms are saying otherwise. I have been having some shortness of breath when i lay down and sometimes right before i fall asleep it feels like i forget to take a breath, which wakes me up. I am able to catch my breath quickly. Is there anything can do extra or am i worrying myself over nothing?

Brief Answer:
It seems to be emotional.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Generally you are too young to have any serious heart problems and especially ischemic heart disease. Typical heart issues symptoms are burning or squeezing pain in the left side which radiates to the left arm. Shortness of breath and dizziness can also appear.
If your pain is sharp and well localized, does get more intense when breathing, it is rather caused by rib nerve irritation. It may be due to spine issues or just with no particular reason.
If you get anxious when the pain appears, this can trigger the other symptoms. This is very common.

In my opinion there is no serious issue. I suggest you to start Magnesium supplementation and avoid coffee and caffeinated drinks. This should help if the anxiety is the reason.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.

Thank you for the quick reply!

I made it apparent to the hospital staff that i had left arm numbness. Very odd for someone my age to have any problems like this.

I talked with the hospital staff yesterday. They basically told me the same thing, just thought i would get a second opinion. It is very reassuring hearing this from you.

Thanks, you'll get a great review.
