What Causes Knee Pain While Twisting And Bending Post An Injury?

default
Posted on Tue, 29 Mar 2016
Question: I injured my knee by twisting it while dismounting my horse July 16, 2015. I did not have insurance and have not been able to get in to have it looked at yet. Pain is significant at the moment. Sitting with my knee bent for more than approximately 20 minutes is painful. Straightening my knee does seem to help with pain some. Swelling is currently at a minimum however when injured it was extremely swollen. Pivoting, twisting, and bending seems to cause the most discomfort. I am currently using ice, elevation, and a compression wrap along with NSAIDs to help with pain with no luck. What could I be dealing with? What can I do to help with pain until I am able to get some answers?

Brief Answer:
Sounds like a meniscus tear

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I am Dr Mittal. I have read your message. I think I can help you. The symptoms of the query are quite suggestive of a possible meniscus tear.
Ideally you need arthroscopic evaluation and treatment.
Meet a orthopaedic specialist.
Meanwhile, take a painkiller with antacid and take up cycling. It may help.
Stop cycling if the pain is too much.
Don't strain your knee.
Takes a lot of time to heal if not treated arthroscopically.
I have tried to make it as simple as possible. I hope that the information contained in this message will be able to help you find the best solution for your problem. Best of luck. Dr Mittal.
