Question: what causes an itchy rash from the knees down. It was draining but now it's blotchy red spots that bleed if I happen to scratch my legs . I have been using polysporin anti itch cream

Brief Answer:
Dry skin responsible for itching.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.I can understand your concern.

In my opinion probable cause of itching in your case is Age related dryness of skin.As age progresses skin losses its capacity to retain water inside and becomes dry. This dryness causes irritation and scratching.

Iron anemia also acts a contributing factor for itching.

It will be better to avoid harsh soap and hot water over legs.Use a good emollient after bath .Apply it immediately after bath and repeat at night.Use cotton clothes. You can apply hydrocortisone cream over legs and take oral cetrizine tablet. Both of these are available on counters.

I hope this will help you.In case of any concern I will be happy to help you.Take care.
