What Causes Irregular Vaginal Bleeding During Menopause Post Thyroid Gland Removal?

default
Posted on Wed, 18 Mar 2015
Question: I am 64 and stopped having periods around 50. I would have light ones with clots about once or twice a year. In November of 14 I had my tyroid removed. In Feb. Around the 20th, I started again and it is still going. Very light and then some days heavy with one or two clots. I am disabled and get very little exercise. Is this normal?

Brief Answer:
Please, this is not normal Get a thyroid evaluation!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this bleeding. At your age, any vaginal bleeding must be taken seriously and fully investigated. I will totally say it is not related to the thyroid surgery and medications and investigate it as an abnormal bleeding in a post menopausal women. This calls for a detailed examination looking at the vagina, the cervix, the uterus and the ovaries. Until all these organs are cleared of any possible cause of this, I will not look at any other possible scenarios. Please, talk to your OBGYN about this and get clear answers.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
