Posted on Wed, 12 Oct 2016
Question: Hi,
I am 28 years old and married for 1.5 years now. I am thinking to get pregnant. Although, post my marriage, I've observed a delay and irregular period cycle. Should I consult a gynaec for this? I want to know the cause behind this.

Brief Answer:
oligomenorrhoea

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query to HCM,
If your cycles have been regular before marriage and have now become irregular and delayed then there may be cause which needs to be investigated.
you need to understand that if a woman's cycle is between 23-35 days , it is still considered normal by definition and books, but if the delay is more than 7 days either way then you need to be investigated for PCOS, hypothyroidism and hyperporlactinemia. You need to get a hormonal profile and an ultrasound pelvis done through a gynecologist for complete evaluation.
Regards
