Question: 2 years ago My family practice doc did a EkdG found AFib, after a weekend of using alcohol. referred to Cardiologist. Cardiologist state my heart was in good shape, found no issues. Did all the test stress, XXXXXXX sound,. $7,000 dollars worth. Had a endoscopy Monday, I was not eaten all day Sunday and drink Gavilyte 4 liters Sunday nite, no water or liquids Sunday AM till test 2PM Monday. Again the Anesthesiologist state I had a AFib on EEG. Did use about 15 drinks alcohol Sat. My blood pressure is 124/78. Heart rate is around 85. Never had any sickness. No heart disease in parents & grand parents. Age 64. 6'1 233lbs, I am a athlete, 3 mile run 3 x wk. I feel great. I ONLY DRINK 1 XMO WITH MY FATHER . I did have a heart rate of 120 at time of office visit, first time that ever was that high. I felt stressed that day from not eating over 36 hrs and no liquids in 14hrs and got light headed when I stood up when I was call by the nurse for the procedure. Masters degree in Biology. Could the stress from not eating & no water after midnite and use alcohol use Saturday or the Gavilyte cause the Electric Short in the heart atrium?. PS only med is 20mg adderall for ADD 2xdi. passed 8mos. Recent blood test are all normal XXXX

Brief Answer: Very unlikely...Maybe adderrall Detailed Answer: Hi and thank you so much for this query. I am so sorry to hear about this irregular heartbeat. It is unlikely that stress and fasting could have caused this irregular heartbeat. Also, the fact that you had experienced this even in the past without these similar conditions makes it even more unlikely to have been caused by these conditions this time around. Adderall has been reported to cause heart beat irregularities. I would lean more towards this at this time. Talk to your cardiologist and hear what he says about adderall being the possible cause of this atrial fibrillation. In all, unlikely to be caused by fasting/gravilyte, etc. Adderal may be the cause. Talk to your doctors on this. I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and please feel free to ask for ore information and clarification if need be. Dr. Ditah, MD.

Brief Answer: Stress cannot cause Afib Detailed Answer: Hi and thank you so much for this follow up. Stress is very unlikely to cause Afib. I hate to take a one time abnormal finding and generate it as the real order of things. If it were for real a pathological cause responsible for this Afib, you would not have negative findings n testing. I will simply advise that you let fall this thought and should more information in future suggest that we look into this again, I will gladly do so. It is also unlikely to have been caused by binge drinking. Unless it was caused by a permanent and identifiable factor unless it becomes a recurring problem. In all, stay calm and wait for more information to confirm on this before getting any worried. Sounds more like an uncommon state than a real disease to be very concerned and worried about. I wish you well. Dr. Ditah, MD.
