What Causes Intermittent Sudden Diarrhea?

default
Posted on Mon, 21 Sep 2015
Question: I am having ongoing problems with sudden diarreah. I can't figure out what's causing it. This has been happening to me on and off for years. I've been to many doctors, but they can't find anything wrong. When it strikes, I have a hard time getting to the bathroom in time. Any ideas?

Brief Answer:
Maybe non-specific diarhea.

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for your query.

All your tests are normal. Probably you are having persistent or chronic non-specific diarhea. It may also be irritable bowel syndrome. If it was due to any infection or enteropathy it would have shown on the colonoscopy.

Since we do not know the etiology or causative factor, the treatment will also be non-specific. You are already taking imodium. I would also suggest more of fruits and salad in your diet.

One thing that helps most in my patients with similar complaints is drinking cleanest water. I am not sure how it helps. Probably it takes care of some infectious agent in water. You should try drinking water from reverse osmosis technique. It is also available as bottled water. Also avoid the mineral water.

Relaxation will also help. There are many techniques to relax like yoga and other relaxing activities.

Also get checked for blood sugar levels.

Hope it helps.
