What Causes Intermenstrual Bleeding?

Question: I am a 36 year old female. In good health that I am aware of. I have always had a 28 day cycle with about 5 days of bleeding. The last about 4 months I have had light brown to pink discharge in between periods. Then my period may be 3 to for days either early or late. Now this month a week before I was due to get my period I start with the brown discharge again for four days. Then I bled though a tampon an hour for a day with fresh blood. Then almost nothing again. Should I be concerned of something serious? Thank you, XXXXXX

There are so many causes of brown discharge, but before giving my opinion, I want to take a few questions from you.

-Is it related to any odor, itching etc.?
-Are you on any medicinal drug and oral pills.
-Are you sexually active?
-Have you performed with your pregnancy test this time?

I am married so I am active. There is no odor that I have noticed. I did a pregnancy test two days ago but according to my cycle this was still five days before my actual period was due and was negative. Lastly, the only medication I have taken is various minerals and vitamins. Thanks again.

Nice to hear from you again though.

You should not be worry about your problem it is not a serious issue but because it is there for last 4 months and some causes need evaluation hence I would order for ultrasound pelvis test done to rule out the causes like fibroid, PCOD, ovarian cyst, pregnancy etc. I suggest you visit a gynecologist for clinical examination and discuss all about this your doctor.
