Brief Answer:
A WORKUP IS ESSENTIAL

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
What you are experiencing is an irregular cycle or inter cycle spotting.
Once in a while, it could be a normal occurrence, do not worry.
Stress , anxiety, recent changes in your weight, unaccustomed exercise, travelling, smoking, drinking, late nights, erratic eating habits - all can cause such bleeding.
Disturbances in thyroid hormones, polycystic ovaries, fibroids, cervical lesions, polyps, endometrial hyperplasia - all can be responsible.
Have you always been regular with your periods ?
What is your height and weight ?
Have you ever experienced bleeding or spotting after sex ?
You should have a thorough gynecological evaluation.
This should include an internal exam - per vaginum and per speculum, and a pelvic transvaginal ultrasound scan.
A Pap smear also should be done.
Hormonal levels - FSH, LH, TSH, Prolactin, OGTT, DHEAS, Free testosterone - should be done.
All the best
Please feel free to discuss further.
