What Causes Inflammation Of Tongue?

default
Posted on Sat, 28 Jun 2014
Question: Hi, I have a raised portion of my tongue that is red. I had a facelift 10 days ago and my physician thinks the anesthesiologist hurt it with intubation. I had some small cuts in the area as well. At first my tongue was numb, now it is very painful and there is a raised area. My speech is also affected. The anesthesiologist was actually worried about nerve damage because of the facelift. So one kind of blames the other... Do you have an opinion about this problem?

Brief Answer:
looks to be thrush from the photos

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query, history and the best part the photographs.

From the photographs you have provided, this looks to me as a problem of glossitis (inflammation of the tongue) with thrush. You are already under steroid treatment. The appearance on photograph is classical of this. Within a few days you may get a full-blown picture if treatment is not started.

All the symptoms you have are due to this problem and no one is to be blamed for this ( nothing to save the skin )

Suggested treatment is reduce/stop the dose of steroids/ decadron. Start local application of anti-fungal oral lotion/application. Oral anti-fungal tablet. Add multivitamins, folic acid; small frequent water orally has the best cleaning action.

I request you to take all these medicines in consultation with your Physician.
