What Causes Hot Flashes Despite Being On Depo Provera Shots?

default
Posted on Mon, 26 May 2014
Question: Last year, I had my left ovary taken out and have been experiencing hot flashes since then despite being on Depo Provera shots. Last 04/16, I had a total hysterectomy and my hot flashes are worst. Should I switch HRT? What are my options? I haven't had a restful sleep since surgery unless I take 2 Norcos, I don't like doing it.

Brief Answer:
SWITCH TO ESTROGEN THERAPY

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
Obvioulsy the Depo Provera is not working for you.
After a total hysterectomy, there is no point taking only progesterone HRT.
Systemic oestrogen is the best option for you.
It can be taken as a cream, gel, patch or pill.
Please consult your doctor and change the HRT immediately.
Alongwith that, lifestyle modification ( exercise, weight loss if overweight, no smoking, drinking, taking calcium, vitamin D and vitamin E supplements, yoga etc ) also will help.
All the best
