What Causes Heavy Foul Smelling Yellowish Vaginal Discharge?

Question: Hi I hv been experiencing heavy vaginal discharge especially 1 to 2 weeks before my period . And during those 2 weeks my discharge would hv a fishy smell and in yellowish (sometimes green) colour. I hv used vaginal tablets for infections n the smell would go away for awhile and happen again. Can you recommend any treatments for my symptoms? Should I take antibiotics for the infections since inserting the medicine is not strong enough?

I am Dr Ramadevi Wani. I will be answering your concerns today.

From your notes it appears that you have bacterial vaginosis. It is a condition in which normal bacterial flora balance is disturbed. There is no definite reason why it occurs. It is more common in women who use douches and in women with multiple sexual partners.

I suggest you consult your Gynecologist for examination and vaginal swab for culture and sensitivity. Based on the result of examination and swab results, appropriate antibiotic can be given.
