What Causes Frequent Diarrhea?

default
Posted on Mon, 10 Nov 2014
Question: For many weeks, not sure how many, I have been experiencing very frequent loose bowel motions. Around 6 or more daily would be average, sometimes with such extreme urgency that I barely make it to the toilet in time. I do not have a gastro infection. I'm still hungry, not nauseous or vomiting but everything I eat seems to go through me very quickly. Naturally I am concerned about bowel cancer, but have been trying to eliminate any other possible causes. It seems too extreme to be IBS and I don't know much about Crohn's disease. I had a colonoscopy 4 1/2 years ago. There were no polyps but I have diverticulosis. I have an appointment with a colo-rectal specialist next week and I expect I will have another colonoscopy very soon. What is the most likely diagnosis? (63 year old woman)

Brief Answer:
Need to rule out colon cancer & Ulcerative colitis

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have gone through your reports, you seem to be having large bowel type of diarrhea which means that the colon is involved.

You definitely needed a colonoscopy, the two things we need to look for are bowel cancer and ulcerative colitis or crohn's disease. IBS is a diagnosis of exclusion and we would consider it only if the colonoscopy is normal.

Hope this helps
