What Causes Frequent Burping And Anxiety When Suffering From A Cold?

default
Posted on Sat, 16 Apr 2016
Question: I don't get sick often, but when I do, anxiety occasionally occurs. I 'm on the back -end of a cold/sinus infection. I have experienced quite a bit of burping activity out of the norm. This is not smelly or unusual type burping, just the desire to get it out. Also, I'm 71, a former athlete, 6'5,200lbs., in good shape. I work out: i.e.arobics, minor weight lifting etc. Muscles around my midsection are somewhat sore due to recent weightlifting, following a two week pause due to the cold/sinus condition. Im wondering if this might also be a factor to the burping. Your thoughts please?!

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome.
I have gone through your query.
Burping occurs due to increased swallowing of air. During cold or sinus infection, we respire through mouth, resulting increased swallowing of air, this might cause burping.

It should improve as cold or sinus problem clears. Presently I would suggest you to avoid excessive chewing of gum or smoking. Do not drink from a straw as it causes belching. Over the counter medications to treat the gas related symptoms such as simethicone, will be beneficial.

This provisional advice provided by me is based entirely on the input provided to me. I would suggest examination by the doctor.

I hope this suggestion might be of some help to you.
Take care.
