Posted on Mon, 13 Apr 2015
Question: Good morning. I woke up this morning and ring around my penis where I was circumcised right below the head is swollen. Its not itching, its not overly red and that seems to be the only place that is swollen. I haven't masturbated or had sex in a few weeks. What could it be?

Brief Answer:
It could be a kind of dermatitis or fixed drug eruption .

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to Health Care Magic. Thank you for posting your question.
I can understand your concern.

It would have been great had I seen the lesion on my own. Still if you can upload a photo of the lesion I will be better able to help you.
It could be due to some
a) irritation
b) dermatitis
c) fixed drug eruption

Have you lately started some drugs like ibuprofen or metronidazole or tinidazole or any fluroquinolone like ciprofloxacin ,ofloxacin or any other drugs?

I would suggest you to
1. Keep the area dry and clean
2. Apply cream containing Fusidic acid and hydrocortisone cream
3. If you have started taking any drugs, stop it

Do not worry much.

I would also suggest you to visit a dermatologist. He/she can examine the lesion and correlate clinically.

Write back to us.
Have a nice day.
Regards.

Hi Dr. Debopom,

Thank you so much for the response. I have uploaded a picture of my penis (embarrassing). As you can see one side is swelled up more than the other side, right below the glans. This area is never that prominent. The white residue on the shaft is hydrocortisone cream. Thanks for taking a look and let me know if you see anything that would be of concern. Still no itching or really nothing really uncomfortable than a little soreness. Thanks again.

And, no I haven't started any new meds.

Brief Answer:
There is nothing to worry.

Detailed Answer:
It is nothing serious.

Continue to apply the cream and keep the area clean and dry.

Even if you haven't started , do you remember consuming any over the counter drug very recently?

Thank you so much. The only over the counter drug I would have recently taken would have been an ibuprofen or a Tylenol, and I do take an over the counter generic Claritin everyday. Thanks again.
