default
Posted on Mon, 26 May 2014
Question: Hi,
My Baby is 2 year old.Her weight is 15kg.
She got fever 2 days back and doctor advised to give Magadol.
Next day on wards she started vomiting and not eating food, loose motion.since 2 days she is not eating any thing. She drinks my milk.If i try to give food, she is not ready to open mouth as well as she will show action like she wants to vomit. When i took her to doctor second time,he advised to give Syp Taxim -O 3ml for 5 days and Syp Ondem 5ml for 1 day.whenever i give medicine, most of the times, she vomits .She doesn't like to take medicines or ORS.Since 2days she is drinking my milk, when she goes to toilet, her motions are loose, not watery and bad smell.Night she is having high fever.Normally she used to eat well eventhough she has fever. Now she is not ready to have food.So I doubt the problem is in her stomach. Some undigested food is lying in stomach.Last week she had lot of mutton, chicken. Now her weight is 14.860kg.She is always asking for plainwater and not ready to drink ORS or coconut water. She is sleeping for more time.I give Syp Ondem today.I didnt give Syp Ondem.Because she is crying seeing medicines and most of the time vomiting medicine. Please suggest what should i do now

Brief Answer:
Admit, prevent dehydartion and infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hi , thanks for writing to us.

Reading about her symptoms, i feel she has gastroenteritis with gastritis, i.e- infection of stomach and intestines - diarrhoea/ desentry .

The treatment given by your doctor is correct, but some times kids wont accept oral medicines.

If your kid continues to vomit all the food and do not take medicines or food, she may have dehydration.

So my advice is to get your child admitted in the hospital care and give medications through injections and start intravenous fluids. Few lab tests have to be done to know the cause for the infection.

By doing this, de hydartion can be prevented and your child can recover quickly.

So consult your doctor once again in this regard.

Without seeing the child I cannot comment much, let your doctor take the best decision.

Thank you , regards.
