default
Posted on Tue, 27 Jan 2015
Question: I've been running fever for 21 days between 99-100.2
I had Bronchitis then Pneumonia and now a throat infection and Thrush. I've been on antibiotic for throat infection since Sat and continue to have a temp of 99-100.2
Not sure why the fever persists after being on 4 antibiotics, steroids, inhalers, Tylenol and Ibuprofen all within a 3 week period.

Brief Answer:
Stop antibiotics and look for exact cause.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I can understand your concern .

First of all I would like to know
1. Why are you taking 4 antibiotics at a time?
2. What was the indication and who prescribed it?
3. Why are you taking steroids?

There should be clear indication for antibiotics use. Most of cases of acute bronchitis is caused by viruses so there was no need of it. Pneumonia is mainly by bacteria so we prescribe antibiotics for that but not 4 in number as you are taking.

Now you have sore throat that is manly caused by viruses and most of time they are self resolving. We need only symptomatic treatment. Some times these antibiotics can cause fever.

So in my opinion, you should stop all these antibiotics and take symptomatic treatment only such as for fever tylenol and for sore throat antihistaminics and decongestant.

Hope this will help you

Brief Answer:
no role of steroids in treatment of pneumonia

Detailed Answer:
Dear Tricia
I can understand your concern .
I would like to inform you that there is no role of steroids in treatment of pneumonia except few serious indications that I don't think you have. Normally steroid is not given to treat pneumonia . Your physician will tell better about that, please discuss and inform me as well, if possible .
At present I am very sure that you have upper respiratory tract infection . This causes sore throat , cough fever ,fatigue , loss of appetite etc.
So local examination of throat is to be done.
This is not appropriate to prescribe one antibiotics after other without clear evidence of bacterial infection , against which they work.
At this stage I would like to suggest you that it's most appropriate to discuss all this with your ENT specialist . He will examine you and will advice you accordingly .
Hope this will help.
If you have any other concerns please feel free to message me .
