What Causes Feeling Of Something Stuck In Throat With Sweating And Back Aches?

Posted on Fri, 23 May 2014
Question: I have been having a sensation of something stuck in my throat especially within thirty minutes after I eat, feeling hot to almost sweating ...more so at night, upper back ache, shakes and hand tremors and blurry vision. I thought it was due to thyroid .".i had it removed last year PTC . Just went my endo and he said not thyroid my numbers are within limits. He did see the tremors even on that day I hardly noticed the tremors. I can't seem to loose the weight I've gained since this thyroid issue. My TSH is .5 and my Dr doesn't really concern himself with the free t3 and t4. My total t3 is 64 (70-180) I read that may make it difficult to loose weight and the extra 15 -20 lbs may have effect on swallowing but I'm at a lost as what to do.
By the way sometimes when I try to rate the Drs it does not go through hope that doesn't happen this time

Brief Answer:
get your thyroglobulin levels

Detailed Answer:
Hi Kath,

Your are having mixed symptoms of hyper and hypothyroidism. Like weight gain is seen in hypothyroidism and your tremors, sweating and blurry vision are seen in hyperthyroidism.

But what alarms me the most is your feeling something struck in your throat and psin in upper back. These are suggestive of recurrence of your PTC.

So i would suggest that you get an ultrasound of your neck to look for any recurrence and neck lymph nodes. Also you need to get your thyrogloubulin levels done, which if more than 20 units is abnormal.

Further management will depend upon these reports.

Hope i have been helpful.

Had ultrasound just a piece of tissue no nodule so Dr wasn't . concerned. Thyroglubulin was ok TgAb was a little high 1.5 range .0-.9 again Dr not concerned because TSH is good so if I'm having both hyper and hypo what can I do. A friend said getting my t3 up would help with weight what's your opinion on that

Brief Answer:
could be your diet

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Yes all your test results are almost normal, so recurrence is unlikely.

But all your symptoms except the weight issue point towards hyperthyroidism. But the test results are normal. Medically there is no situation / condition where both hypo and hyperthyroidism co-exist simultaneously. Accordingly may be all your symptoms and weight gain is not related to your thyroid levels.

Increasing T3 with supplements may add to your existing tremors. Therefore in my opinion, you should follow a low calorie diet regime and a little physical exercise like walking for about 30 mins daily, to help you loose weight.
