Posted on Wed, 25 Mar 2015
Question: Hello Dr.

I had a problem with my heart beating very fast for like 7months, i did all the thyroids tests and i put a monitor for 24h and nothing at all, i did a general blood test i only have a low total of vitamin D.
Recently i have been noticing that everytime i eat i feel my heart beating fast and the beats are around 130-140, is it the problem from my digestive system.
FYI: i take Zantac 300 2 times a day because i feel all my chest burning until my throat, how can i treat this and i have a bad breath smell also how can i treat it.

Thank you
doctor

Brief Answer:
Esophagitis and/or gastritis are possible cause

Detailed Answer:
Dear Ms,

Heartbeats after eating usually is a result of some reflex on heart coming from the stomach, the only thing I would advise try to eat with small portions and don't drink liquids with meal.
In case of chest burning it can be caused by esophagitis and/or gastritis.
The majority of cases gastritis is caused by Helicobacter Pylori, a special type of bacteria. In case you take Zantac and it doesn't help you should be evaluated for Helicibacter. If positive it has very easy treatment.
So I would advise you to see your doctor for further tests.

Hope I could help you

Wishing you good health

Brief Answer:
Welcome back

Detailed Answer:
Dear Ms,

Helicobacter is the bacteria. The test is done to find out if there is Helicobacter and it's quantity. The other option is gastroscopy, which is very informative for both Helicobacter and also stomach and esophagus are examined thoroughly.

It is very good that you have an appointment with gastroenterologist. I think your doctor will prescribe one of these examination and after that appropriate treatment depends on results.

Bad smell can be caused by your problems. If it doesn't disappear after treatment, you should see dentist and ENT doctor.

Wishing you good health
