What Causes Extreme Tiredness And Constant Cough While Suffering From Sinus Infection?

default
Posted on Thu, 30 Mar 2017
Question: I went to the ER almost two weeks ago after having a sinus infection that turned into a bad cough. I was diagnosed with bronchitis and some of my bloodwork was elevated. Lactic acid over 7, low potassium. I was admitted and stayed for 3 nights. At one point, my blood pressure was very elevated and I had some chest tightness so the Dr ordered an echocardiogram. Fairly normal and so was chest xray. I was given IV Levoquin and steroids. I think the steroid jacked up my BP since I don't have high BP.
I begged to go home on the 4th day and was sent home with no antibiotics. I Have been extremely fatiqued, since. I also am using my albuterol inhaler often as it feels like I can't catch my breath. And I'm still coughing. MY Dr sent me for some labwork 2 days ago and I have no results yet.
Do I need to go back to the ER? I am tired of feeling so bad. I am a fairly healthy 65 year old female. Not overweight, no other health issues except asthma. What should I do?

Brief Answer:
Possibility of worsening of asthma is more.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
By your history and description, possibility of worsening of asthma is more.
Feeling of Tiredness, constant coughing etc are suggestive of worsening of asthma more.
Albuterol is short acting inhaled bronchodilator. It is for emergency relief. It is not for control of asthma.
For proper control of asthma, you should take combination of long acting inhaled bronchodilators (formoterol or salmeterol) and inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) (budesonide or fluticasone).
Oral bronchodilators and short course of low dose steroids will also help you.
So consult doctor in emergency room and discuss all these.
Don't worry, you will be alright.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
