default
Posted on Tue, 29 Nov 2016
Question: Sometimes I get a strong urge to do harm to someone to where it feels so real. I hate these urges and thoughts.. They came so randomly and unwanted.. And it's scary to tell anyone about it for fear of thinking I'm mental or something.. I'm a 23 year old male.. Had the unwanted urges to harm someone for about 7 years now but now that I feel detached from myself depersonalization, it the compulsive unwanted thoughts have gotten Worse. And the urges along with the thoughts makes it scary.. And makes me almost Shake. It seem unlike myself because it makes me very anxious.. Sometimes I think a lot about LIFE.. And what's the meaning of my life etc.. I hate those thoughts too. I just want my self back and wish this mental fight for my feeling of sanity will be over.. Wha do you suggest I do. I do not have a angry past or a past of fighting or anything.. I hate the thought and urges I get.. I love life and just want it to go away.. It's an on and off battle I've had plus feeling detached from myself.. To the point I'm always fighting to feel like I still have my right mind.. It's so tricky.

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and thanks for your question.

What you are describing is most likely consistent with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). You are having upsetting thoughts about harming others that you have no intent to act on, and this bothers you and makes you anxious.

Fortunately, there are great treatments for OCD. I would recommend a combination of a high-dose SSRI such as fluoxetine combined with exposure and response prevention psychotherapy (ERT). I would seek out a psychiatrist and therapist in your area who can provide these to you. This will help you feel better.
