What Causes Episodes Of Increased Heart Rate Followed By Irregular Heart Rhythms?

default
Posted on Mon, 13 Apr 2015
Question: I am not currently experiencing any problems, but over the last month I have had two episodes of increased heartrate (110-120bpm) followed by an irregular rhythm. While unnerving there were no other symptoms or impediment to my activity. My resting heart rate, on rising in the morning, is about 65bpm and I hover in the low 80s during daily activity. Should I be concerned about these two episodes and is there something I should pursue?

Brief Answer:
It would be wise to evaluate...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Not all increased heart rate / palpitation are concerning. However a few need treatment. It would be extremely difficult to understand the type of irregularity based on symptoms alone as most of those symptoms overlap with normal phenomena. Therefore it would be wise to pursue it with your local doctor. When I say you should consider evaluating further, it doesn't mean you should be worried about a serious heart problem. It only means that we don't miss easily treatable condition early.

I am not sure why you are on magnesium and potassium supplements. Potassium's role with the last two episodes cannot be ruled out. You can reassess its need while you see the doctor.

Hope this answered your question. Let me know if you need clarifications.

Regards
