What Causes Emotional Changes Of Voice Quality?

default
Posted on Mon, 9 Feb 2015
Question: Does volume of one's voice related to just the nature of the vocal chords or something more? I tend to get very loud when I am excited both positively and negatively or, am trying to say something with emphasis. Sometimes I don't mean to be aggressive but to others, I came across as so, because of my volume. I want to know the scientific reason behind this and also if I can do anything about it.

There are 3 components, which helps in producing voice.

1.Lung produces air flow.

2. vocal cards- air flows through vocal cards (valve) producing audible sounds. muscles of voice box (larynx) changes the frequency of sounds.

3. Articulators (lip, tongue, tooth, palate) - sound flow filtered and articulated.

These 3 components modulates the changes of voice in emotions like happiness, sadness, anger and XXXXXXX

Difference in size of vocal folds, (male 22mm, female 17mm) differentiates the voice (low pitch-male, high pitch-female).
