What Causes Elevated Fasting Sugar Level Despite Treating With Lantus?

Question: I started taking Lantus approximately 3 weeks ago. Started with 14 units and was told by my doctor to increase it by 2 units every 3-4 days; now up to 22 units. I also take metformin and Victoza. I take both the Lantus and Victoza at 11:30 pm, my blood sugars in the morning are high. Due to my work schedule, my work schedule, I eat a small snack around midnight and generally get up by 10 am. (Sleep about 8-9 hours and sometimes longer). Should I move my insulin to the am when I get up or leave it alone?

Noted your concern.

If night dose of Lantus fails to control Fasting blood sugar then it is unlikely to be controlled with shifting Lantus to morning.

To control Fasting blood sugar level you may need to increase night dose of Lantus.

6 point blood sugar monitoring may help.
Monitor
- Fasting.
- with hours after breakfast.
- before lunch.
- 2 hours after lunch.
- before dinner.
- 2 hours after dinner.

Depending upon blood sugar charting appreciate changes in insulin dose may be suggested.
