default
Posted on Tue, 25 Aug 2015
Question: I have been having very dull head pain and also neck and back pain for about two days. All the pain is about 2/10 and they started when I had anxiety attacks so I think it might all be tension and stress pain. Should I get it checked out?

Brief Answer:
No worrying symptoms for the moment.

Detailed Answer:
I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.

Reading that description there are no red flags, manifestations which would warrant a prompt check. The description of mild to moderate pain, of a dull character, associated with neck pain seems to be most probably in the setting of tension type headache. It is by far the most common type of headache (affects 80% of the population at least once during their lifetime. Factors like stress and anxiety do serve as triggers or exacerbating factors.

So for the moment I would recommend simply over the counter painkillers like Ibuprofen 400 mg 2-3 times daily or Naproxen which usually are effective in relieving such pain. Stress relaxation techniques, activities like yoga are useful to prevent such issues in the future.

Of course in case you have other new symptoms such as fever, nausea and vomiting, weakness or numbness in the limbs, balance and coordination issues, progressively increasing headache intensity despite painkillers, then medical evaluation would be advisable.

I remain at your disposal for further questions.
