What Causes Dull Chest Pain, Occasional Abdominal Pain And Mucus In Stool?

default
Posted on Mon, 27 Apr 2015
Question: I've been having dull chest pains, occasional sharp abdominal pains and mucus in my stool after I drink. I don't drink very often however when I do I party pretty hard, but only for one night. Usually only on occasions such as a friends bday party, and no excessive drinking. A few beers and maybe a shot or two and that's it. The chest and abdominal pains seem to stick around but the mucus only comes after I drink. Which has been twice since the beginning of march this year. I've been to the ER about my chest and the chest xrays showed nothing out of the ordinary. I have pretty frequent heartburn which I normally take unprescribed extra strength zantac for. I do smoke cigarettes very regularly and marijuana occasionally. I've been all over a bunch of websites trying to match symptoms. Its basically a mix and match game. The one I've found that I match most is a peptic ulcer. I'd like a professional opinion as to whether I should just see my doc or head to a hospital.

Brief Answer:
Possible GERD/gastritis/ulcer to determined by upper endoscopy..

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concerns.

The dull chest pains associated with heartburn are indicative for possible GERD/gastritis or even ulcer. Upper endoscopy is advised to run to determine the right diagnosis.

Cardiac tests are also advised to run to rule out cardiovascular problems because you drink occasionally and smoke cigarettes regularly on daily basis:
- ECG
- echocardiogram
- stress test

To my opinion, :
- if the pain you are having is unbearable, you should go to ER immediately to get immediate medical attention there.
- if you feel the pain, but it is bearable, then, I advise to schedule an appointment with GI specialist and cardiologist for respective evaluations.

For the moment, I can only advise to:
- continue taking Zantac
- take antacids
- avoid smoking or drinking alcohol
- drink plenty of water
- avoid foods that would aggravate the pain like: oily/fried

Hope it was of help!
