Brief Answer:
I doubt Ménière's...

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for posting the query. I'll try my best to help you with this problem.

Dizziness is a symptom of various causes which needs a complete evaluation.

1. Dizziness of Ménière's is a XXXXXXX vertigo with spinning around sensation, followed by sudden loss of hearing or fluctuating hearing loss, associated with vomiting and tinnitus.

2. In your case, it's mainly the tinnitus and fullness in the ear which is the cause of concern. The above symptoms are usually noticed in:
- Eustachian tube dysfunction
- Infection of the middle ear
- Temporo-mandibular joint dysfunction

3. A thorough evaluation of the ear, nose and throat, combined with audiological investigations and CT Scan of the brain (if required) can aid in identifying the cause of the problem.

Hope I have answered your query; I'll be available for the follow up queries.

I have fullness in my ear that gets worst when I eat high sodium

My dizziness is more like feeling spaced out or off balanced a little

Reading on meneires I was pretty sure it was it but you are, the expert

Is there any treatment besides meclizine that can help?

Or any treatment you see, fit for this situation?

Brief Answer:
High sodium can worsen the Eustachian tube block

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Welcome back

1. High sodium diet can cause increased blood pressure and edema in the interstitial tissues. The edema can thus worsen the Eustachian tube block and also the pressure in the middle.

Yes, I also agree with you that high sodium diet can worsen Ménière's. But, the only reason why my opinion differed because, the vertigo of Ménière's is a classical spinning around, which is not seen in your case.

2. Meclizine can be tried to control dizziness, but I would prefer to advocate Betahistine, which is a much safer drug.

3. I would still insist you to get a complete evaluation done to narrow down on the diagnosis, rather than making hasty conclusions.

Hope this clarifies your doubts.

Brief Answer:
Betahistine comes on various brand names...

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for writing back

1. Betahistine comes in the brand name of Betaserc, Betavert, Betagen, etc.

2. Steam inhalation, saline and steroid nasal spray and oral steroids if the above medications fail.

3. Allegra will not be of much help, unless you have nasal allergy.

4. Yes, ETD can cause flutters in the ear.
