Question: hi,

I delivered on 27th Feb 2015. it was a C-sec delivery. my tummy is still that of a 6-7 months pregnant lady. please advise on what to do?

I have bought an over the counter abdominal belt from chemist. please help me with following questions:
1. how long should the abdominal belt be worn in a day?
2. should it be worn when I am having meals?
3. does it have to be tied starting right below the breasts?
4. Any recommended brand of belt for recovering from postpartum belly?

thanks,
XXXX

Brief Answer:
wear it for as long as possible

Detailed Answer:
Hello Mrs, XXXXXXX welcome to health care magic.
Belts are helpful in gaining the tone of abdominal muscles which is lost due to enlargement of belly during pregnancy.
It wont help you to lose the belly fat but will slowly tighten the muscles and thus treat the flabby look and thus making abdomen look much better and in addition prevents hernia formation.
Keep wearing it whole day long for as long as you are comfortable but no need to wear it while lying down for sleep or routine rest.
You can have meals while wearing it but only if you are comfortable in that because some females have slight bloating during meals in initial days post cesarean delivery.
You should wear it in a way that it covers belly button and lower abdominal muscles as they are the sufferers in a pregnant belly.
There are various brands available, popular ones being MeeMee and Farlin and are thus reafily available in popular stores.
But practically all serve in a similar way but the difference is only due to the comfort of fabric so if the belt you are already having is comfortable to wear, no need to buy a new one
Also take simoke measures like drink less tea and coffee, avoid water befire goung to sleep.
Avoid cough, constipation and lifting heavy stuff like pile of clothes or bucket full of water etc.
Hope this discussion will be helpful to you.
Take care.
